step two: booking
Once you've decided to book, just let us know! With a full name, company name if applicable, and an email address, we can send you a link to your proposal via your own personalized client portal. Your proposal will contain three pages:
1. A summary of your invoice.
2. A contract to fill out and sign digitally.
3. A payment page.
A 50% deposit and signed contract secure your date with the remainder due the week prior to your event. This payment is set up with auto-pay so you don't have to remember to come back!
If multiple departments need access, just let us know. We can make the link shareable to make collaboration easy!
STEP THREE: PRE-EVENT
Once you're fully booked, you'll automatically receive a confirmation email.
A few days later, you'll receive an email summarizing the details of your booking, including any set-up requirements we may have. Save this email as it comes in handy later!
If your event is booked more than a year in advance, you'll receive another confirmation email during the first week of January.
Finally, 10 days prior to your event, you'll receive your Event Day Questionnaire. Filling out this form ensures everyone is fully prepared for your celebration!
step FOUR: SET-UP
Each artist will need 2 chairs and a 6x6 foot space, preferably side-by-side. If your event is outside, you will also need to provide a covered spot under an awning or canopy to protect your artists from sun exposure and rain.
Marietta comes with a 16x20" easel sign and a 33x81" retractable banner (indoors only; optional) to help draw in the crowd!
Your artist will arrive 20-30 minutes prior to start time.
step FIVE: YOUR EVENT!
This is where the magic happens! Guests will line up and watch as your artist effortlessly draws caricatures with skill and speed, each getting a turn in the chair.
Our artists work best if you allow guests to form a line. The line stays entertained by our drawings and moves quicky with our speed! Additionally, we manage our own lines so you don't have to!
Marietta and her artists will work diligently to produce as many drawings as possible during the timeframe in their own unique style. Marietta can draw 20 faces per hour for Standard Caricatures, 50 faces per hour for Quick Caricatures, or 10 faces an hour for Digital Caricatures!
And yes, Marietta can draw as many faces on the page as you like! She will asks guests the number of faces in advance and size the faces appropriately. Each person sits one at a time, trading out for the next person!
step SIX: AT THE END OF YOUR EVENT
About 30 minutes prior to the end of our time, we will close the line with a "Sorry! I'm the last one!" sign, signaling that we cannot draw any more people beyond what we have in line. We may also use tickets or numbering with a washable Crayola marker to ensure the line completes smoothly.
If you would like to extend your time, our artists are happy to do so given availability! Please let us know prior to the 30 minute mark so we don't have to reform a line. Marietta can take cash, card, Venmo or Cashapp for your extension!
step SEVEN: POST-EVENT
Two days after your event, we'll send you a satisfaction questionnaire in hopes of getting your candid and honest opinion of how we did! Please fill this out and let us know. We're always looking for ways to improve our services!
We also like to check back in with our clients two weeks and 45 days past your event to ensure you're still happy with our services and to see if there's anything else we can do for you!
We will never send you spam or promotions. You will not be entered into a mailing list. All communication you receive will be directly related to your event.
FAQ
q. Where can I see more of your work?
A. Check out the Caricatures by Marietta Instagram or Facebook page for more samples! Tiktok coming soon!
Q. How fast can you draw?
A. Standard Caricatures take about 3 minutes per face/20 people per hour, while Quick Caricatures take about 1-1.5 minutes per face/40-60 people per hour. Digital caricatures take 6-8 minutes per face/8-10 people per hour. Traditional pet caricatures take 4 minutes per face/15 pets per hour. These rates are estimated as additional accessories or details may take more time. These rates only apply to Marietta; other artist speeds may vary but we only hire the very best!
Q. Have you ever worked a(n) [insert event type]?
A. There aren't many types of events we haven't worked! We have experience with just about everything, from Quinceañeras to end of life celebrations and everything in between. We're always more than happy to answer any questions and provide examples from a specific event type!
Q. If I don't add slipcovers, how do guests keep their drawings safe?
A. We offer courtesy rubber bands for free which allow quests to roll their drawings up and keep them safe!
Q. Are you insured?
A. Yes! Caricatures by Marietta, LLC has liability insurance through K&K Insurance Group, inc. We can produce a certificate upon request. We also require all of our artists to maintain liability insurance, so you never have to worry about a thing!
Q. What are your travel fees?
A. Travel is free for the Kansas City metro area (45 mile radius from 64132). Outside of that radius, travel fees are the most recent IRS federal travel reimbursement rate (Currently $0.67 per mile but changes yearly). Events more than 2 hours away and ending after 8 PM also require a boarding fee of the average hotel cost of your area (usually between $150-200) to ensure the safety of your artist!
Q. Do you travel out of state/do destination weddings?
A. Yes! Marietta works out of state frequently for all sorts of clients and has a passport for out of country events! travel events follow the federal mileage rate if the event can be reached by car, or require a day-rate travel fee to cover plane, room, and board. If you have group arrangements, such as a block of hotel rooms, these fees can be minimalized.
Q. How many events have you worked/faces have you drawn?
A. Marietta personally draws at roughly 250-300 events every year! That's between 16,000 and 20,000 faces a year. Wow!
Q. Are deposits refundable?
A. Deposits are refundable in the event of Acts of God or cancellation by the performer. Deposits are not refundable in the event of cancellation by the client but can be applied to another event within the next calendar year! We're pretty flexible with this policy and like to ensure client satisfaction.
Q. What are your set-up requirements?
A. In most cases, we just need two chairs, a 6x6 foot cleared space, and protection from the sun and rain if outdoors. If you have digital components, we will also need a 6 foot folding table and access to electricity. We find it's best if artists are stationed side-by-side at events to ensure guests know where we are!
Q. Do you do proposals?
A. Yes! Proposals are an off-menu option to keep it secret :)
Just ask!
Q. Do you do commissions?
A. No. Caricatures by Marietta specializes in live art at your event. That being said, we're happy to come to you! We've had many clients book parties at their homes specifically so they can get caricatures drawn. We're often far more economical than a commission, even for just one or two drawings!
Q. Do you have a service where you charge per person and the customer pays the fee?
A. No. We find our services work best with an hourly rate where the caricatures are free for your guests! This allows us draw more people during our timeframe and your guests will have a happier experience. Caricatures make good promotional items or gifts for your attendees! If you are a non-profit or fair, we suggest finding a sponsor for our services.
Q. What is your education/qualifications?
A. Marietta has a BA in Art from Park University and has been drawing caricatures full-time for 21 years. She began at Worlds of Fun at just 15-years-old and left to do event work after 8 years. Marietta has worked for some pretty big names, such as the KC Chiefs, Google, IKEA, Nike, Nascar, T-Mobile, and more! Her sole job is drawing caricatures at events - it is her career, hobby, and passion. When you hire Marietta, you are hiring a seasoned professional with extensive experience that ensures your event will be a hit!
